Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted significant challenges facing Ukraine’s defense sector, particularly concerning the supply of drones, due to a substantial budget deficit. Addressing the financial gap, Zelensky noted that the country is grappling with a deficit of approximately $27 billion, largely attributed to defense expenditures, including drone and missile production.
According to Zelensky, securing funding for defense production is crucial, as around one-third of the current deficit may be required to meet drone supply needs from January to March. He warned of potential supply issues in the early months of next year if orders and payments for drones are not addressed in the coming weeks.
To mitigate these challenges, Ukraine is actively engaging with international partners such as the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, seeking assistance to bridge the funding gap. Zelensky emphasized that these partners acknowledge the necessity of supporting Ukraine’s domestic production capabilities.
Additionally, Ukraine is pursuing further financial support through agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation on drone technology with international partners. These partnerships focus on leveraging Ukraine’s expertise in unmanned systems and fostering joint production and technological collaboration.
