Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has inaugurated the Carpathian 8 Summit in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, western Ukraine, marking the launch of a new regional forum aimed at enhancing cooperation among eight European countries. The three-day summit, which runs from September 18 to 20, brings together leaders and officials to discuss critical issues such as security, energy, transport, and economic cooperation.
The summit sees participation from Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. Notable attendees include Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Romanian President Nicusor Dan, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, while Slovakia is represented by a senior foreign ministry official. These discussions are pivotal as they aim to bolster regional ties and address shared challenges.
A significant aspect of the summit is its economic focus, which has attracted around 500 business representatives. President Zelensky announced that investment agreements and projects exceeding €1 billion are in the pipeline. Nearly 100 projects from the participating nations have been showcased, highlighting the potential for cross-border economic growth and collaboration.
Key topics include strengthening transport and energy infrastructure, which are vital for improving regional mobility and expanding trade and investment links across the Carpathian region.
