Polish President Karol Nawrocki has put forward a plan to deepen economic and strategic ties between Poland and the United States, with a focus on creating a regional hub for servicing American military equipment within Poland. Speaking at the Polish-American Economic Summit in New York, Nawrocki emphasized the potential for Poland to play a critical role in regional defense and energy sectors.
Nawrocki proposed leveraging Poland’s existing industrial capabilities to establish a European PAC-3 service center, enhancing the involvement of Polish companies in the production, development, and servicing of American defense technology. In his address, he underscored the importance of moving beyond merely purchasing military equipment from the U.S. to fostering more collaborative ventures.
In addition to defense, Nawrocki outlined ambitions for Poland to become a significant energy hub for Central and Eastern Europe, utilizing U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies. He noted that Poland is already distributing some American gas to Ukraine and expressed a desire to expand this role, highlighting ongoing projects like the country’s first nuclear power plant and increasing LNG imports from the U.S.
The summit also served as a platform for Nawrocki to discuss broader economic cooperation, particularly in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors. He suggested that the Port of Gdańsk could be a strategic entry point for American goods into Central Europe, supporting future economic interactions and reconstruction initiatives, particularly in Ukraine.
