Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is making another attempt to overturn President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of a legislative bill aimed at regulating the nation’s crypto-assets market. Tusk has announced plans to request that Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty bring the issue back to lawmakers for reconsideration. This move comes after Nawrocki blocked the legislation for the third time, following vetoes in December 2025 and February 2026, with the most recent occurring in June. The president has argued that the latest draft fails to address key issues raised by his office during its development.
Nawrocki has criticized the government for its disproportionate focus on cryptocurrency instead of resolving the broader deficiencies within the legislative proposal. He has indicated a willingness to sign the bill if the identified shortcomings are rectified. This political standoff has escalated, as Tusk connects the cryptocurrency debate to allegations involving political figures and media outlets associated with the former ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. Tusk has suggested that the situation may involve an organized network, alleging financial transactions between the cryptocurrency sector, PiS-linked media, and high-ranking politicians.
In particular, Tusk has pointed to the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, noting that the case has become increasingly concerning. While he emphasized that the government will not intervene in police or prosecutorial investigations, he maintains that parliament should once again vote on the president’s veto to move forward with the crypto-assets regulation.
This renewed effort sets the stage for another clash between Tusk’s government and President Nawrocki over the proposed legislation. Nawrocki remains firm that the bill requires significant revisions before he can consider granting his approval. The ongoing dispute highlights the tension between regulatory ambitions and political dynamics within Poland’s government.
