India is actively seeking to enhance its involvement in efforts to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. As part of this initiative, New Delhi is increasing its engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as the path to resolving the conflict.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s transition from merely advocating for negotiations to holding direct discussions with both parties involved in the conflict. This approach is part of a broader strategy to facilitate peace talks and explore solutions that address key conflict-related challenges, such as the safety of shipping in the Black Sea and the management of grain and energy exports.
The minister also indicated India’s exploration of potential arrangements to prevent further attacks, signaling a proactive stance in the international arena. While Jaishankar has engaged in direct talks with Ukrainian representatives, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to maintain strong ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the two leaders having met in New Delhi in September.
These developments occur amidst ongoing efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv is also considering the possibility of another round of talks, underscoring the dynamic nature of diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
