Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, a crucial move for Ukraine’s frontline logistics and defense against Russian drone attacks. In a video address, Zelensky also urged the prompt delivery of air defense missiles, particularly the ammunition for Patriot systems, emphasizing their importance in protecting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from Russian ballistic missile threats.
Zelensky highlighted that despite previous political commitments, Ukraine is still awaiting military shipments from the United States and its European partners. The Ukrainian leader’s call for air defense support underscores ongoing concerns about the country’s ability to safeguard its territory amid persistent conflict.
In addition to military aid, Zelensky expressed hope for a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, a town within the Russian-controlled area of Ukraine’s Kherson region. This operation, facilitated by U.S.-mediated efforts to establish a local ceasefire, aims to deliver food and medical supplies to civilians and provide a safe passage for those wishing to leave the conflict zone. The endeavor would involve establishing a secure corridor through mine-clearing efforts, as roads in the region are heavily mined.
Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate on this humanitarian mission and expressed optimism that U.S. mediation could facilitate its success. The situation in Oleshky remains dire, and the proposed plan seeks to alleviate some of the hardships faced by civilians trapped in the conflict.
