A recent meeting between Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland’s Law and Justice (PiS) party, and former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki concluded without resolving the ongoing divisions within the party. The discussions highlighted the persistent internal discord that has been a challenge for Poland’s main opposition party.
Following the talks, PiS Member of the European Parliament Piotr Müller announced that his group had put forward 21 compromise proposals. These proposals are intended to alleviate the internal strife and help rebuild trust among party members. Müller emphasized that the suggestions were made in the spirit of goodwill and loyalty, with the aim of fortifying the centre-right political bloc that PiS represents.
Müller also defended the establishment of the Rozwój Plus association, noting that it was created to broaden support for the centre-right and attract new voters. He addressed concerns regarding the financing of the organization, stating that legal assessments had been conducted to ensure compliance.
While Müller expressed a willingness to come to an agreement, he firmly rejected the notion of signing loyalty pledges or declarations, describing them as humiliating. He stressed that PiS should focus on being a broad political movement dedicated to policy-making and achieving electoral success, rather than becoming entangled in internal disputes.
