Trump “Disappointed” by Putin, But Ukraine Aid Still in Limbo

by admin477351

President Donald Trump expressed “disappointment” after his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who reportedly refused to make concessions to end the war in Ukraine. This diplomatic setback comes as Ukraine faces a severe military aid crunch, with the US having reportedly halted its latest shipment of crucial munitions, including Patriot air defense missiles, due to concerns over its own stockpiles. This situation unfolded amidst a record-breaking Russian aerial assault on Kyiv.
Following the call with Putin, Trump had a “good conversation” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy focused on Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, joint defense production, and “mutual purchases and investments,” signaling his efforts to provide incentives for the Trump administration to resume vital aid. However, no concrete announcement was made regarding the unfreezing of US military assistance.
The devastating Russian attack on Kyiv, which occurred immediately after the Trump-Putin call, was characterized by Zelenskyy as a “clear interpretation of how Moscow interprets diplomacy,” underscoring Russia’s continued aggressive stance. This intensified bombardment highlights the urgent need for Ukraine to secure robust air defense capabilities, currently hampered by the US aid pause.
As uncertainty surrounds future US military assistance, Germany is in “intensive talks” to explore options for purchasing Patriot missile systems for Ukraine. This European initiative reflects a growing recognition of the immediate threat and the necessity of international cooperation to bolster Ukraine’s defenses in the face of relentless aggression.
