HAKONE, JAPAN – A major shift in Japan’s luxury travel landscape is coming in 2029 as Hotel Okura prepares to open its first-ever domestic resort: Okura Resort Hakone Gora. The brand’s new flagship move brings unprecedented features to one of Japan’s busiest hot spring destinations.

The resort is being developed through a 2025 partnership with Nishimatsu Construction, cementing Hotel Okura’s expansion into the high-end hot spring market. Hakone Gora—drawing nearly 20 million visitors each year—will soon welcome a new contender for top-tier accommodations.

The standout feature? Every one of the 58 guest rooms will include its own private outdoor hot spring bath, filled with authentic Owakudani thermal water. The property’s design, led by acclaimed designer Gwenael Nicolas, builds on a “Forest Hideaway” theme that blends natural materials with modern luxury.

Additional highlights include expansive indoor bathing areas, saunas, a high-end teppanyaki dining experience, and a stylish bar lounge. Hotel Okura aims to elevate regional hospitality standards and attract both domestic and international travelers seeking an exclusive escape.
